"They always kneel down"

I'll admit it, I'm a romantic, I love movies and books where the right guy and right girl get married at the end. (Key words there right.) I mean who doesn't? Finding Mr. or Miss Right is a life journey, everyone does it, and there's a story to every couple's marriage. When/where they meet, first impressions, dating/courtship, who first knew, and my personnel favorite- the proposal. I LOVE proposals, romantic ones, funny ones, odd ones, old-fashioned ones, creative ones... I LOVE them all. A proposal is a big step that changes the rest of a person's life.

A few days ago, we were watching a movie, at the end the guy came riding up, jumped off his horse knelt in front of the girl and proposed, I, being me, became quite excited and cried, "HE'S KNEELING, HE'S KNEELING, I LOVE IT WHEN THEY KNEEL!" Of course, since I love proposals so much, I have a very solid opinion on what makes a good one. One of the great elements to a proposals is when he bends on one knee. It's perfect. Pouring rain is pretty neat too, roses are always good too (kudos to David.)

So, I'm ridicules, but, everyone has their quirks and hobbies. I just happen to like proposals. Everyone laughed at me when I yelled at the movie, but, like I said, I'm me.

On of my favorite proposels is from the 1940 film "Mrs. Miniver"

5 year old Toby: "Vin are you going to marry Carol?" (Note: Both Vin and Carol are present)

Mrs. Miniver: "Toby finish your dinner."

Vin: "Well Toby, I really..

Toby: "Well are you?"

Toby's older sister, Judy, about 8 years old:"Don't be silly Toby, people never propose at Dinner, it's not romantic."

Carol :"Toby, you forgot to ask me if I was going to marry Vin if he asked me."

Toby:" Well are you?"

Carol: "If he does"

Mrs. Miniver:"Toby, please finish your dinner."

Vin:"Well Carol, I was going to wait for a romantic time, like Judy said, but, oh well. Will you marry me?

She says yes of course:-)

Haha! I'm with you!:D
I must say I'm a romantic too! I think the thing that is most fun about being a romantic, is resiting a very mushy part from a very good book to Miss E.T. Wood:D Oh just the site of her face makes it all worth the pillow that smacks into yours!!!

Ha ha, Kourt, that's happened to me too:-)

Ugh. You two. Why...is it, that two of my good friends are both incurable romantics? I mean, when Kourt starts reading something from "A Gown of Spanish Lace," I mean! Honestly! We are fifteen and sixteen years old, not twenty-five.

Yes, I like the sweet parts of a well-written book. I really do. I mean, how many times have I read the last scene in Witch of Blackbird Pond? Innumerable times. So it's not like I'm completely a stone wall with no emotion, you guys.

But then, I would NEVER in my entire life make a post about proposing, unless the story had me in it!

Ugh.. I can't stand "A Gown of Spanish Lace" (sorry Kourt) That was too mushy even for me.

I should hope you'll have a post about proposing aomeday Erica.

The old fuddy-duddy dude chimes in:
"I'm with CowgirlE. You guys need to find some new books to read."

Liking romantic scenes does not make one a romantic. Being a romantic means that you are able to find the beauty in everything, not just the mushy scenes. Take Beth's death scene in Little Women. That was a very romantic scene, at least in the movie. That is my favorite scene in the entire feminist propaganda that is Susan Sarandon's Little Women. So sad, and yet, so very poingnant and beautiful.

True romances is never escorted by runaway emotion, but rather finds fast companionship with passionate logic

"A Gown of Spanish Lace" was definitely not one of my favorites. I was just reading it at the time and I just HAD to read a ridiculously mushy part to Erica:D

I think "The old fuddy-duddy dude" is rite. Romance isn't all about dashingly handsome men and swooning women.
I also REALLY like that scene in Little Women.
Thanks for setting us sentamentle, ridiculas girls strait:D

Lyds, what movie were you watching?
I DISPISE reading books that have a girl that can't decide between two guys! If it says that on the back I won't read it...

That's a sad movie!!!

Deb, Mrs. Miniver, right Lyd.

No, Deb was asking which movie we were watching when the guy kneeled down. It was the "Love's Unfolding Joy" in the movie Drew came riding into town to propose to Belinda before she left for Boston. Yes they really changed from the book.

That came out? I didn't know that it had even been filmed..yeah the does sound very different from the book.
Have you seen NT 2 yet?

you girls are so funny, I especially like Erica's line about "we're 15 not 25" Haha, as a 25 year old (emphasis on old) I'm not NEARLY as romantic as I used to be. The older you get, the closer you get to a marriageable age, the less romantic you get. Right now, I could care less if the guy kneels down. I guess it would be nice, but I never think about it.

The Witch of Blackbird Pond? last scene? "It was Nat, it had been Nat all along..." yeah, I love that book, too. :-)

Oh, and Ty? have you never read Little Women? Because, if you like the Beth scene in the movie, you'll LOVE it in the book. Louisa May Alcott has an incredible talent for death scenes. "Alas, poor Charlie... his tomorrow never came." cue tears...

"In truth he had gone to meet his Father and begin again"

That's one of the few books I've shed a tear over...

Lyd, you can be a romantic at heart. Just don't be a goofy romantic at heart.
