You Are 70% "Average American"
You are average because you don't make New Year's resolutions.

New profile picture??

I realised the other day that I haven't changed my profile picture in a long time... mostly because I haven't had a picture I like taken of me since then. So I was looking through our picture arcives and found some old ones I like. So I'd like your opinions please: (1), (2) or (3)? Or should I just leave it the same?

(1) From our trip to D.C., just a general "happy" picture.

(2) From Mom's babyshower 2 years ago (can you believe??), more of the "thoughtful" type picture.

(3) Just for the fun of it, a goofy picture:-) Taken before banquet last spring.

More News!!!

Although older news than the last posts news I thought you'd like to know that my wonderful parents *drumroll please*... won the "Business People of the Year" award from the local chamber of commerce!!!! Let's give them a hand everybody!!!

My Exciting News!!

Joe and I went to a Homeschool Speech and Debate Tournament toady. Joe did team debate with his friend Nick. They tied their first debate and won they're second. I competed in the "Humorous Speech" category and "Impromptu" (where you're given a topic and 2 min. to write a 5 min. speech). When I competed in the humorous speech I told a story called "Stand Back said the Elephant, I’m Going to Sneeze”. To make a long story short....I won first place!!!!!
I gave my story twice; each time to two judges, 3 out of the 4 judges placed me at first, which means I won!!! I still can't believe it!!!!!

I just wanted to share my joy with you :-) :-)

I'm still grinning from ear to ear!!!!!!!!!!

Choices, Narnia and Bleak House

Bleak House. A novel by Charles Dickens. Wikipedia calls it "Widely held to be one of Dickens' finest and most complete novels, containing one of the most vast, complex and engaging arrays of minor characters and sub-plots in his entire canon." True, there were tons of characters in the 2005 adaption we watched last week. Funny ones, weird ones, scary ones and a couple just plain... creepy ones. All very Dickens-ish The movie was well made, fast-paced, well written and acted, and worth watching all 8 hours.

During our 3 night viewing our family discussed the moral of the story. We came to the conclusion that it was a story of choices. The whole story comes to be because a women makes a wrong choice, a morally wrong choice. Because of that choice, our heroine is born. So if she had made the right choice we would have no story, right? So was it actually the right choice? We'd have no story if not, and what about all the people our heroine helped and blessed in her life??Well of course not, but the question comes.... What if???

This reminds me of one of my absolute favorite passages in C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia books. Price Caspin Chapter 10:

"You mean" said Lucy rather faintly, "that it would have turned out all right-somehow? But how? Please Aslan! Am I not to know?"
"To know what would have happened, child? said Aslan. "No. Nobody is ever told that."
"Oh dear," said Lucy.
"But anyone can find out what will happen," said Aslan...
And what about the many people our heroine helped?? Narnia wisdom comes in again, this time from The Horse and His Boy Chapter 14:
"Child," said Aslan, "I am telling you your story, not hers. No one is told any story but their own."

What choices we make we can not change, we make them in a split second, and the wheels are set in motion. Whether good or bad they are made and can not be changed. How ever small, they might have much significance. Will anyone's life be changed by me posting this today? I should think not... but you never know. Is it right? Wrong? Somewhere in between? It's confusing, and frustrating, but what is certain is that God gave us free will, and the only thing one knows they can do right is to listen to the Holy Spirit and try to do God's will in everything...

Michael Darling

I guess you all might be sick of hearing about the play, but i thought you wouldn't mind me sharing my character worksheet with you. Enjoy!
Character Worksheet
Character Name:
Michael John James Darling

What do you perceive to be the circumstances of your character, economically and socially?
I'm pretty good. I have lots of friends: John, Wendy, the lost boys and Peter. I like it when we beat each other up. I couldn't do that at home in England.

When and where were you born?
Ummm… I forget. I remember somethin' about two o'clock in the nighttime. That would be awful inconvenient I think.

List your siblings.
Wendy and John. I like playing Hook and Peter Pan with John, but sometimes he's bossy and calls me "stupid", I'm just as smart as he is!! Wendy is okay… but Nana was better.
How did you get to where you are today?
I flewed! Peter Pan taught us how to fly. I like Neverland, except some of the boys hit me, so I hit them back.

What are your favorite things about your life?
I like stalking the Pirates and Indians, and catching mermaids (I almost got one once), I like playing with the Indian papooses too, and they call me “Small-White-Papoose-Who-Sleeps-In-Basket.”

Who do you feel closest to and why?
Wendy because she is my Mother, and Tootles, because he gets beat-up the most often, next to me.

On a free day what do you do?

Play Hide & Seek, Kick the Can, Follow the Leader, Chase the Stick and dance with Wendy and the Lost Boys.

What were/are your father and mother like?

Sometimes Wendy (who is our mother I think) tells us about a Mr. and Mrs. Darling. But I don’t remember them much. Nibs said their children were white rats, and I’m not a white rat, I remember Nana, but I don’t think she was my mother either. So I don’t know who my mother is really.
Peter is supposed to be our father, but somehow I think fathers are usually bigger and louder…

What family member or other person has had the greatest impact on your life and in what way?

My mother Wendy has always took care of me.

Who do you admire most and why?

Peter Pan, because he fights Hook, who is scary. Peter is brave, I want to be that brave. I want to go out everyday and have adventures and kill wild animals… although Peter never brings anything back…

What are your strong points?

I know more about England than any of the other boys, except John. Tiger Lily likes me better than any of the other boys; I’m also Wendy’s favorite.

What are your weak points?

I miss Nana. And I haven’t killed a pirate yet.

What do you consider your greatest accomplish to date?

Flying

What do you hope yet to accomplish?

I want to win in a fight with one of the boys and I also want to kill a pirate!
