Poem Sweet Poem

We discussed this poem in my creative writing class today. At first I thought it was odd, it not rhyming and all, but after discussion it's humor appealed to me. It was written by a Doctor who wrote his poems on prescription cards (thus the rather short lines) while he waited in between his patients. I love how it has the "note stuck on the refrigerator" quality to it.

This is Just to Say

I have eaten

the plums

that were in

the icebox

and which

you were probably

saving

for breakfast.

Forgive me,

they were delicious,

so sweet

and cold.

So, what do you think? Is the speaker apologizing? Is he sorry he ate the plums? What is the poem really about? Most importantly: what type of plums??

Please comment and let me know what you think!

Thankful Thursday #2

This week I am thankful for my parents "second family".

After Joe was born I guess everyone assumed that, since we finally had a boy, our family was complete. I think we all thought so too... then Lukie Boy came along.

I remember after he was born we would all just sit there watching him. He didn't have to do anything, we were just amazed at him being him. This time our family was really complete, Joe had a play-mate. No more surprises. Right?

I couldn't even begin to express how much this sweetie-pie means to us. She has us wrapped around her little finger, and our lives literally revolve around her. The other day we played "Mommy and Baby" I was the baby and she was the mommy. Considering the fact that I was a very whiny baby she did quite the remarkable job. She tried to carry me, but then gave up and told me I was old enough to walk!

I love her to peices and she's my Hona-Buna!

Draw Your Own Conclusions...

Sometimes Even I Shock Myself...

(Note: Italics are what I'm thinking, and what I assumed other people were thinking.)

ME: "Oh look, some person forgot to pick up their drivers license at the library front desk... I guess I'll find his number, lets see... Bruce R. Smith." *dials number*

GUY: "Hello?"

ME: "Hi, is Robert there?" Robert? Robert? Where on earth did that come from??

Guy: "Ummm..."

Me: "I mean Bruce, is Bruce there? I actually meant Bruce, I just said Robert for some reason...umm..." Come on Lydia, salvage the situation...

Guy: "Actually, it's Bruce Robert." This is one weird lady...

ME: "Oh, really? That's funny, I didn't even know that, I just saw the R. and assumed you're middle name was... not that I was going to call you be your middle name. (Rabbles on and on...) Well umm... this is the library and umm, yeah."
I'm such an idiot sometimes

Thankful Thursday #1

So I'm starting Thankful Thursdays on my blog! I think it will help to remind me every week how great my life really is, and how good God is to me. Even though I'm always thankful for my family and my other day-to-day blessings I think I'll concentrate on a different thing I'm thankful for every week.

This week I am especially thankful for... A Wonderful Job
It''s been almost a years since my boss called me into "the office" and offered me my dream job. Helping at an actual front desk at an actual Library with actual factual books!!! I love the contact I have with people there. Although I haven't done much out-right witnessing, I do hope just being myself is a testimony of the Lord in my life. I'm also blessed to have two Christian co-workers, I think it's funny how Molly and I talk about church and such right up-front while anyone in the library could listen to us! I know complain sometimes about shelving and some of the grittier tasks I have to do as the rookie librarian, but I really love my job and I'm ever so thankful for it.

Post One Hundred and Sixty-Six

It's been 1 year and 117 days since I started my blog and I have 166 posts. Not bad I guess. On average I get 4 comment a post. So I was wondering:

What makes you want to comment?
What would you like me to do on my blog?
What more of?
What less of?
Any Ideas?
What annoys you on my blog?
What do you like that I do?
Is there anything I should change?
Be honest!I really want to know!

The Adventures of the Big Sister

You might remember The Adventures Of The Babysitter. Our heroine completed that mission and has moved on to another, more dangerous mission and title, The Big Sister.

Ladies and Gents, I'd like to paint for a picture of words, Imagine this: It's a warm day in late spring, the first character in our sketch is Boy on Bike: Girl in stroller is also a character.

A simple walk in the rain soaked forest and passed a peaceful river they stroll. Cautiously, The Big Sister calls to the Boy on Bike to stay close and watch out for snakes, which had been sited in those parts. Without heading her calls, Boy shoots across a bridge spanning the river... practically running over a snake curled on the cement sunning it self.

Boy on Bike screams in fright, but crosses the bridge to safely. Our heroine thinks fast and calls calmly to Boy to go to the right side of the bridge and pass back to her side of the bridge as the Big Sister searches for for something with which to push the snake of the bridge.

Unfortunately, some facts slipped our heroine mind. a) There are a pair of swans in that portion of the river, b) and the female is nesting c) the male is gets annoyed when humans invade his or his mate's personnel space. d) she just told Boy to cross the bridge on the extreme right, aka, the swan's personnel territory.

A scream from Girl in Stroller alerts Big Sister to the situation, the swan (a remarkably large swan to boot) has climbed the bank and is steadily advancing toward the girl trapped in the parked stroller.

Big Sister jumps into action, with a fast summer salt (okay, maybe not..) she reaches the stroller just in time snaps the breaks off, all the while strongly advising the Boy to high-tail it out of there. Two-wheeling the stroller she starts at a run for safety, away from the swan and snake. Thankfully the snake, apparently bored by the action, had slithered off into the river, but the swan is at her heels, honking and flapping his wings in anger.

Although our heroine is running pell-mell for safety, Boy on Bike, after getting over his initial fright, thinks the situation is no longer dangerous, and is taking risks that are slightly frightening the Girl in the Stroller, who is screaming her terror at the top her lungs, all of witch is aggravating the mad swan even more and he advances on the terrified three-o.

Big Sister tries to calm the Girl and admonish the Boy at the same time while attending to her own project. Fool-hardy, you might say, but what's getting chased by a mad swan if you can't get pictures of it?
Tune in next time for the amazing conclusion to The Babysitters/Big Sisters, greatest hour yet!

Don't ask me but...

I think brains don't work as well in the summer. June 1st came and went and suddenly I can't do Algebra.

Not that I could do it that well before...
